Magellan DIY: Pedro’s Custom Shed

To be fair, this project is only partially DIY. There was some assembly assistance from the Pole building manufacturer and miscellaneous subs, but its a great place to kick-start our in-house DIY series of posts.

In the spring of 2008, our principal and founder Pedro Castro was looking for a cost-effective way to build a custom shed in his backyard for a workshop and to house his motorcycle collection. After weeks of sketching and budgeting some GCs, Pedro approached a shed manufacturer who could accomodate his custom design wishes into a pole building. It was clear that this provided a budget-friendly way to create a utility structure that with some creativity does not have to look standard at all.

Pedro added custom brackets, clearstory windows and a sloping roof to match the character of his remodeled ranch style home on Redmond’s Education Hill. The design also adds some “spice” to the backyard, and, as you can see in the last photo, provided a great construction learning opportunity for his two sons.

This project ended up costing 1/3 of traditional construction for the same design and was erected in less time.
