Issaquah Highlands Self-Storage Building

We recently finished a new self storage building in Issaquah located at 910 NE High Street. The building stands 6-stories (68,700 S.F.) and contains a leasing office, hundreds of storage spaces of various sizes, and a separate retail space on the ground floor. The building was fitted onto a narrow site that is roughly 50ft. x 250ft. The nature of this site lead to some creative design solutions, such as a cantilever along the street side, that was necessary to fit everything into the building that was desired. To date this is the tallest building that we have designed here at Magellan Architects!

The general contractor for this project was Foushee and Associates and the architectural design for the most part was a collaborative effort from multiple people at our firm. Below is a couple of pictures showing the erection of some large concrete tilt up panels.

Favorite Finishes: New Wallcovering

We received a new wallcovering card in the mail the other day from Wolf-Gordon for some new patterns and colorways in their Infinity line of recycled polyester wall coverings. Loving this bold chevron pattern, Adire.  It’s retro and clean but also makes a statement.

Looks like a great option for hospitality, bold office spaces, or even an adventurous retail space. I love that it comes in bold colorways with contrasting colors, subtle pastel variations, and deep rich jewel tones.

This product is 100% recycled polyester with recycled backing, for an overall post-consumer Recycled Content of 20%. It also has custom color capability for 300 yards. Check it out!

PSE Factoria: Complete!

Our project for Puget Sound Energy’s Factoria Service Center was completed in October. This was a 32,000 s.f. new office building and renovation of an existing warehouse facility. We are on track to receive LEED Gold certification under LEED v2.2. This is the largest project complete to date by Magellan Architects, so this is a proud moment for our design team!

Happy Birthday, Oscar!

Brazilian Architect, Oscar Niemeyer, turned 102 on Tuesday. Amazingly, he still goes to the office everyday to complete his iconic designs. Read more on his candid birthday statements. See below for some of his body of work.

Old/New Venetian Gallery

ArcSpace today featured the renovation of the Francois Pinault Foundation Gallery in Venice by Japanese Modernist Tadao Ando. What a wonderful combination of history and modernism, brick and concrete, glass, steel, and wood. Bellisimo!

World’s Tallest Woman-Designed Skyscraper

Aqua, the new skyscraper by Studio Gang Architects, is complete and a beautiful undulating addition to Chicago’s skyline. Jeanne Gang is the 45 year old principal architect for the building, which she describes as having an “inhabited facade”.

The buildings concepts and execution make it truly sustainable, an active green building instead of a cube with features tacked on. It also features one of Chicago’s largest green roofs, above the 2 story mixed use base.

The forms pay homage to the modern sculptural qualities of Oscar Niemeyer, the Brazilian great.
