The Atlantic today published one of the best articles i’ve read on the rebuilding effort and residential development in Post-Katrina New Orleans. Read the article here.
One of the Holy Cross homes, developed by Global Green
It portrays a down-to-earth view of where things are at and the organizations doing their best to make recovery happen by talking about 5 new houses and the stories behind their design and construction. The article is only a little bit about Brad Pitt, but mostly tells other stories, which is refreshing while still giving kudos where its due.
The third prototype design and built by students at the Tulane School of Architecture
The article also chronicles Tulane University students engaged in the URBANbuild program. If you haven’t seen the series ‘Architecture School’ that was aired on the Sundance Channel last fall, it gives a great idea of this same New Orleanian Design problem and what its like to attend design school.

The Lake Washinton Youth Soccer Association’s 60 Acres South project is under construction and nearing completion, thanks to the beautiful fall weather we’ve been having.
Photo: Bob Yoder, Redmond Neighborhood Blog
The expansion of extra fields will make 60 acres the largest soccer facility west of the Mississippi. Magellan coordinated this project along with Dowl/HKM Civil Engineers, David Evans Associates for Wetlands Engineering, Bruce Dees Landscape Architecture, Dibble Engineering for Structural, Mead Gilman Surveyors, ABPB Geotechnical, and Transportation Solutions, Inc Traffic Engineers.
Read more about the project and their call for volunteers on the Redmond Neighborhood Blog, authored by local resident and activist Bob Yoder.
